During public comment, Audrey Houston of Skyline, speaking for Anacortes Girls Basketball, asked the council to help secure priority weekday practice time at Fidalgo Elementary between 5 and 8 p.m. to serve five teams (grades 4–8). Houston said last year the program enrolled 53 athletes and currently faces cramped practice conditions where three teams may be squeezed into one gym hour.
Houston explained the district has a priority scheduling agreement with parks and recreation that often books gym time before community groups can schedule, leaving limited weekday time for youth teams. She said the program sometimes uses weekend practice time but that conflicts with contests. Council members invited her to leave contact information and said staff would follow up with parks and the school district to continue the scheduling conversation.
