The Allen County Board of Commissioners on July 31 held a public hearing and authorized county staff to begin the sale process for a 62.709‑acre parcel at the northwest corner of Lima Road (State Road 3) and Carroll Road, known as the former Byron site. Chief of Staff Chris Cloud said "this hearing was to receive input before beginning the sale process of the former Byron site." President Richard E. Beck and Commissioner Ronald W. Turpin voted 2‑0 to approve moving forward.
Cloud asked that County Attorney Laura Maser and his office be allowed to proceed "following state guidelines for government entities" to initiate the sale. Commissioner Turpin said the plan had evolved "over eight or nine years" and that the goal was to "maximize the potential sale for taxpayer benefit." The board opened and closed the hearing at 10:02 AM after no members of the public spoke for or against the sale. The board’s action authorizes staff to begin required steps under state guidance; no sale contract or price was approved at the meeting.
