Presenter tells United Nations Security Council Sudan war must end after 1,210 days

A presenter addressing the United Nations Security Council said the conflict in Sudan has lasted 1,210 days and warned its humanitarian toll is immense: "Long enough for 33,000,000 people, more than 0.5 of Sudan, to need humanitarian aid to survive." The speaker named Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Liberia as sponsors who brought the issue to the Council and opened the floor to urgent discussion.

The presenter said famine and acute malnutrition are deepening, with about 4,000,000 women and children facing severe malnutrition this year, and called on Council members to act. "This war has to end, and it has to end now," the presenter said, adding that perpetrators of atrocities must be held to account and that the United Nations should support every feasible pathway to peace.
