Presenter Says Aide and Substitute Experience Prepared Them for First Year Teaching

A presenter at a Laredo ISD meeting described a multi-year path into classroom teaching, saying they served five years as a teacher aide and two years as a substitute before taking on their first year as a lead teacher. "But this will be my 1st year as an actual teacher in my own classroom," the presenter said, summarizing their route into a full-time classroom role.

Another presenter who spoke about music education said growing up in a band program with inspiring band directors motivated their approach to instruction. "Growing up in my band program with my band directors at the time, which were very inspiring, it was a lot lot of fun," the second presenter said, adding that they hope to provide students with "a much higher level band experience" and teach them to become stronger musicians. The first presenter returned to emphasize the classroom climate they intend to build, saying they want "a classroom where they feel welcome and that they feel loved and cared for."
