Gateway teacher and local instructors honored; NCAT names CTE finalist

Nathan Pope, the district's chief information officer, introduced several recognitions, including social studies teacher Jeff Crisp for his participation in a Teacher in Congress program. The board applauded Crisp and asked him about his experience in Washington, D.C.

Representatives from the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching and the Department of Public Instruction were on hand to recognize David Brotherton, a trade and industry teacher at Gateway School, as an NCAT 2027 Burroughs Welcome Fund North Carolina Career and Technical Education Teacher of the Year finalist. An NCAT representative said Brotherton will attend a week of professional development and finalist interviews in October and that NCAT will celebrate finalists and announce the winner Oct. 29 at the Concord Convention Center.
