Commission directs improved public access to resolutions and numbering going forward

The Bay City Commission approved a resolution on Aug. 10 directing staff to improve public access to commission resolutions by establishing a numbering convention going forward and making files searchable online.

Commissioner Tenney moved the proposal and the clerk explained that resolution records have been tracked by year and that documents have been digitized back to 2012, with an ongoing list the clerk has maintained since 2015. The clerk said retroactive numbering was not appropriate because prior minutes and official records are already approved, but that the office can begin consistent numbering and publish a consolidated list so the public can more easily find resolutions.

Several commissioners praised the clerk's existing work and said this will make it easier for residents and staff to find past actions. The motion carried by roll call vote.
