Board adopts first-reading changes to add statutory definition of 'sex' to district policies

The Maryville Board of Education approved on first reading updates to district policies to incorporate the statutory definition of "sex" required by new state law. Dr. Winstead told the board that the requirement applies broadly to taxpayer-funded state and local government entities and that handbooks and policies using the term must include the statutory definition by the end of the calendar year.

Bart Stinnett moved the change on first reading and Candy Morgan seconded; members voted unanimously to approve the first-reading revisions. Administrators said staff will review handbooks and policy language to ensure compliance within the stated time frame.
