Molly Jarvis told the committee that the demolition of the Cherokee Heritage Center building is out to bid and that the architectural phase is expected to be completed by the end of the calendar year. She said demolition “could happen as early as, September or, you know, later this month or September,” and that the project team would be careful to save some materials for the new site.
Jarvis also said staff expect a groundbreaking “in early calendar 27.” Councilor Teehee and other councilors acknowledged the public interest in the site, with Teehee describing recent visitor questions and recalling the site's importance to artists and holiday visitors. Jarvis said staff will add signage at the campus entry explaining the project and timing because the site will be closed during demolition.
