Jane Oste, speaking for the Cherokee Nation National Treasures Advisory Committee, said the Chief announced three new National Treasures last week: Ray Kirk; a reference to Mittelsmith; and Russell Feeling from the language department. Oste also named potter David Pruitt and said two artists, Tracy Rabbit and Vivian Cottrell, will represent Cherokee artists at the Santa Fe Indian Market.
Oste highlighted Eddie Morrison, a longtime artist and student of Allan Houser, and encouraged committee members and councilors to acknowledge and support the artists. She said National Treasure Tracy Rabbit is restoring her father's mural and that other artists will demonstrate weaving, moccasin making and historic clothing at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in Springdale.
The report was received with congratulations from committee members; no formal committee action was taken in the transcript.
