Resident raises PFOS concerns, board points to Racine Water Utility jurisdiction

At public comment, a resident questioned whether cooling water from a nearby data center could be introducing PFOS into local waterways and said federal standards on such chemicals have changed. "They put PFOS in it. The forever chemicals," the resident said, adding concern that federal standards were loosened.

Board officials and the village attorney said the village does not operate the water utility and that monitoring and wastewater oversight are handled by the Racine Water Utility and the city of Racine. A trustee told the resident the Racine Water Utility routinely tests water and has standards to meet. The attorney offered to get contact information and discuss the matter after the meeting so residents could be connected with the appropriate water regulators.
