Parent alleges an unfounded CPS report led her to withdraw her child from Prince George schools

Cynthia White told the Prince George County School Board during public comment that an anonymous Child Protective Services report filed Feb. 25 prompted a 45‑day investigation of her family and led her to withdraw her son from the district on March 13. "That case was closed, but for 45 days my family experienced this," White said, describing her child as nonverbal and saying she learned of the report only two weeks after it was filed.

White, who identified herself as a parent with 32 years of teaching experience and listed multiple staff involved in prior evaluations, called the episode "Orwellian" and said it eroded the family's trust in the school system. "Trust cannot be simply requested. It has to be earned through transparency, independence, accountability, and truthfulness," she said. She urged the board to examine how anonymous reports are handled and signaled she intended to return for more time next month if needed.

Board members expressed sympathy and acknowledged the seriousness of her concerns; one member apologized for what White described and said the district's children are resilient. The superintendent and other staff did not offer a formal investigation update during public comment; White said the CPS finding was "unfounded."
