Prince George schools outline framework for responsible classroom use of AI

Prince George County Public Schools staff presented a framework for responsible AI use in classrooms, saying the district will form an AI leadership coalition, deliver professional learning and draft guidelines aligned with Department of Education expectations. "In 2026 the question is not if we should use AI, but how do we prepare educators and students to use AI safely, responsibly, ethically, and effectively?" presenter Laura Adeno said.

Adeno described a three-course AI learning series offered in partnership with Virtual Virginia and ALP; the sessions escalate in rigor and are free, with participating educators able to earn up to 20 recertification points. She emphasized the district is "building a framework for responsible implementation" rather than rolling out a one-size-fits-all adoption, and that the guidelines will be grounded in classroom realities and stakeholder input.

Board members thanked Adeno and asked staff to bring questions to future meetings; no formal vote was required. The presentation will inform a stakeholder-driven policy process and follow-up work by the proposed AI leadership coalition.
