Water availability questioned for Haiku site; staff to provide meter-capacity transmittal

Committee members asked whether water reserved for the fire station could also support agricultural uses on the remaining 20 acres of the county parcel. AECOM engineer Diane Kodama said two domestic meters would serve the fire station and an on-site 40,000-gallon tank would provide supplemental supply. Department of Water Supply district engineer Jason Miyaguchi said earlier reservations for three meters dated to 2004 did not carry forward when the county acquired the property and that code and the meter-priority list limit adding new services.

Jason Miyaguchi said the parcel currently has two 5/8-inch domestic services serving the planned development and that adding additional meters would require placement on the priority list and compliance with county code. Members asked staff to provide a written transmittal with the total capacity of the existing meters and an explanation of options for agricultural irrigation, including catchment systems. Deputy director of agriculture staff said catchment water could be sufficient for some subsistence agriculture.
