Selectboard issues 15‑day vacate for unsafe 10–12 Central Street building

The Springfield Selectboard voted on Aug. 10 to issue a 15‑day Notice to Vacate for the property at 10–12 Central Street after a reinspection on Aug. 5 found no corrective work addressing safety and code violations. Town Manager Scott Pickup said owner Will Hunter "advised he lacks funds to complete required work, understands a Notice to Vacate, and does not intend to contest the action." The 15‑day period would end Aug. 25, 2026.

Manager Pickup told the Board the Town has begun outreach for relocation assistance with Springfield Supportive Housing and will continue to coordinate services. Community members raised concerns about the number of residents on the property and where they will go; Lee Trapeni, Director of Springfield Supportive Housing (via Zoom), was identified as the lead contact for relocation help. The Board approved the motion to issue the notice 4‑0 (Kristi Morris, Heather Frahm, Michael Schmitt and Doug Johnston voting yes; Tara Chase absent).
