Board denies late open-enrollment request for Student A

The Treynor School Board on a motion denied a late open-enrollment request for a pupil identified in the meeting as “Student A,” concluding the board found no good cause to waive the district’s March 1 deadline.

Board chair called the vote after the board returned from closed session, and a board member moved to deny the request “due to a lack of good cause to support the exception to the March 1 deadline for Student A.” The motion was seconded and the board approved it by voice vote. The board had entered closed session under Iowa Code 21.5(1)(a) to review confidential student records before returning to take action.

The decision was recorded as the first formal action of the evening and will stand unless the family pursues another administrative or statutory remedy available under state open-enrollment rules.
