Speaker alleges sheriff withdrew from school roundtable; county staff says scheduling and communication issues were cited

During public comment, Alfredo Guerrero told commissioners he had invited county sheriff representatives to a school‑district roundtable and that, he said, Priscilla Contreras informed him on Aug. 4 that the sheriff’s commander would not attend. Guerrero said he had documentation of his invitation and that the sheriff’s office later cited his social‑media activity as a reason for declining participation. Guerrero told the court he viewed the decision as an improper restriction on his rights and said he had copies of emails and photos to support his timeline.

County staff acknowledged Guerrero’s statement and commissioners and staff discussed communications between departments and scheduling: Carmen and others said they had requested representatives from CIT and other units and that there had been a later determination the sheriff’s office would not attend that particular roundtable. The court did not take formal action on Guerrero’s allegation during the meeting; county staff said they would review the records Guerrero referenced and continue to coordinate outreach for the Aug. 26 roundtable.
