Residents urge park revitalization and goat-head weed control

Councilmember Geovona Thompson and residents urged revitalizing both upper and lower parks, removing goat‑head weeds and investing in maintenance so green spaces are comfortable and inviting. Thompson proposed irrigation or other maintenance to sustain landscaping; Steven Sherwood said pre‑emergent herbicide had been ordered and recommended donations of seed and drought-tolerant plantings.

Council and staff framed these ideas as maintenance- and capital‑level options: some actions (weed abatement, pre‑emergent application, volunteer seed planting) can be done quickly with local coordination, while larger upgrades (shade structures, artificial turf or splash pads) would be candidate capital projects for CDBG or other grants.
