City authorizes $42,712 increase for Waucoma Park / 9th Street sewer project

Hood River — Council moved to increase the Waucoma Park 9th Street Sewer and 13th Street Alley Sewer Project budget by $42,712 to cover contingencies and unforeseen subsurface conditions.

Staff told council that crews encountered rock and that older lines in historic neighborhoods often contain unexpected conditions that add unit costs (for example, rock at $300 per yard). Engineers said the requested funds included contingency, but that subsurface uncertainties remain. Councilor Cavallari moved to authorize the budget increase and the motion was seconded and approved on the record.

What to expect: Staff said the additional funds came from reallocated CIP planning and contingency and that the project team will continue to monitor change orders and report impacts as work proceeds.
