Board told students returning from non-accredited programs will need third-party credit-by-exam

Staff described recurring situations in which students re-enroll after attending non-accredited programs and expect credit for prior coursework. Administration said teachers should not be asked to create credit-by-exam assessments and proposed third-party options such as Texas Tech and the University of Texas as the mechanism to grant recovered credit when appropriate.

The board was told staff will bring a formal resolution on Aug. 27 to clarify board policy and the third-party process. Administration noted students would have opportunities to take credit-by-exam and that passing results would be credited, but staff emphasized the district will use an outside provider to avoid asking classroom teachers to produce those exams.
