Trustee Huddle’s records request narrowed after debate over investigatory materials and tutoring data

Trustee Huddle moved that the administration provide emails and documents previously requested that relate to tutoring, new and eliminated positions, Chromebook disciplinary referrals, communications about reappointment and communications with Dutch Fork Middle School. The motion prompted extensive discussion about scope, redaction requirements, legal constraints under the Teaching Employment and Dismissal Act, and administrative capacity to gather records.

The request was amended on the floor to remove items that could interfere with an active investigation — specifically investigatory notes and certain communications tied to the reappointment process — and to exclude the tutoring results that other trustees said had already been addressed. Board members raised concerns that overly broad, individual record requests impose substantial burdens on district staff and could jeopardize employee due process; supporters said transparency and clarity about process were necessary. The board approved a narrowed version of the request and directed staff to produce the records that remain in scope.
