Former council member asks Belgrade to allow more time to load campers

Former council member Ken Smith told the council that camper owners need more time to load, plug in refrigerators and prepare equipment before trips and suggested the city allow a short grace period for loading. "Allow a little bit more time to unload and load," he said, adding that he often brings his camper the day before to charge batteries and cool the refrigerator.

Smith asked the council to consider a tweak to the ordinance so people preparing campers are not cited; staff and council members responded by noting the ordinance's intent to curb permanent RV storage in rights-of-way and agreed to consider whether language about "active loading and unloading" needs clarification or staff education.
