County to house U.S. Marshals detainees at $76.48 per inmate per day after court approval

Chief Deputy Russell Kirk told commissioners that negotiations with the U.S. Marshals Service produced a revised per-detainee rate of $76.48 per day, up from the county’s earlier $65-per-day figure; the court approved the intergovernmental detention-services agreement by voice vote.

Kirk said county staff had initially hoped for a higher rate but that $76.48 per day was the highest the Marshals Service would agree to. “We were shooting for $100, but... that’s as high as we can negotiate with the U.S. Marshals,” he said. The agreement was presented as a culmination of ongoing work and the court voted to accept the terms.
