Youth commission outlines birdhouse-building event for early 2026

The Monte Sereno Youth Commission discussed plans for a community birdhouse-building and education event to be held in January or February 2026, with organizers aiming to install boxes in March–April when local birds begin nesting. The event concept includes a short educational presentation about local bird species followed by a hands-on building session; commissioners discussed vendor partnerships and possible discounts on materials.

Staff described potential vendor pricing and delivery: "there is a fee, which, I think it's still reasonable," and estimated that an instructional session could cost a little over $100 per class but might be negotiated if participants purchase materials. Commissioners volunteered to contact local bird stores (near King’s Court and downtown shops) to secure support, and they proposed a weekend session with snacks and pizza to encourage participation. The commission tentatively targeted the last week of January for the project planning and will finalize the date once vendor availability and student schedules (including SAT dates) are confirmed.
