Council to update leaf-blower noise ordinance; commission invited to follow

City council members informed the Youth Commission that the council will present an update on a leaf-blower noise ordinance the council approved about a year ago and that the commission may want to follow or participate. The mayor also reminded commissioners that the commission is scheduled to present a status update to the City Council on Dec. 2 — the same meeting when the new mayor will be installed — and encouraged as many commissioners as possible to attend that presentation.

Mayor Craig summarized the ordinance background and the implementation timeline: the council "approved a noise ordinance, specifically geared towards leaf blowers," and set a one-year timeframe for implementation. He urged commissioners interested in environmental and noise-pollution issues to attend the December council meeting or review the future update. The commission agreed to coordinate attendance and to consider whether members should provide input when the council discusses any necessary changes to the ordinance.
