The Christian County Commission opened its 2027 budget process and said it would hear court budgets first. Chair said, "our focus is on, starting our budget process for this year, and and we always do the courts 1st." The commission then heard a detailed presentation from the court.
A judge presenting the circuit court budget told commissioners that the clerk's budget "has not increased her budget proposal at all for 2027." The judge walked through line-item changes, noting modest adjustments such as a small increase for training and a reduction in phone expense for some divisions.
Commissioners and staff asked about year-to-date actuals through June and how prior-year under-expenditures were being handled. The judge said some smaller categories may come in under budget while other categories — especially legal fees related to juvenile cases — have trended upward.
The commission set next steps for budget review and indicated staff would return with more granular figures during the August–October planning window.
