Council approves $11,000 amendment for Raby/Vista stormwater culverts

The council approved Ordinance 27‑01 to amend the FY27 budget by appropriating $11,000 from the major maintenance and repair unassigned fund to the Raby/Vista stormwater improvement capital project. City staff explained that rising material costs and the decision to add additional culverts increased the project’s material budget and that a grant would cover part of the cost.

City Manager Heidi explained the fund balance and project scope, noting the unassigned major‑maintenance fund would decline from an estimated $61,101 to roughly $50,101 after the appropriation. Mayor Campbell and council members described the work as an incremental but necessary step to address corrosion and failing pipes near the Rocky/Raby intersection and Vista road, and the council approved the ordinance by roll call: motion passed with five in the affirmative and one absent.

Why it matters: The appropriation will allow the city to move forward with drainage improvements before winter, replacing failing culverts and improving stormwater flow at two priority locations identified in the city's stormwater management plan.
