District outlines two-classroom pre-K plan after ACAP partnership change

The BOQUET VALLEY CSD superintendent presented a plan to maintain early-childhood services after ACAP informed the district that it would change the age grouping of its program and withdraw from the prior 3–4 partnership. The proposal calls for two classrooms on district campus: a universal pre-K room with a maximum enrollment of 18 students (ages 3–5) and a separate integrated pre-K classroom that includes students with special-education needs.

"One being a universal pre k room, where the maximum enrollment of that going to be 18 students between the ages of 3 and 5 years old," the presenter said when describing the classroom model. The board was told current enrollment in those sections is modest (about 10 in universal pre-K and about 11 in integrated pre-K), and the superintendent said state education funding provides per-student payments that would cover initial costs. Trustees discussed staffing ratios (universal: 1 adult to 7 students; integrated: requires a special-education teacher plus a general-education teacher) and the threshold at which the district would need to hire an additional teaching assistant.

District staff said they received a letter from Alan Jones at ACAP notifying the district of the change; the superintendent said an RFP will be issued this summer to identify potential partners and that the district may seek a waiver to proceed without a partner if required by state rules. Board members requested the RFP text and additional clarity on collaboration requirements and funding transfer rules before finalizing operations and site plans.
