Council backs $1.895M resilience proposal to study critical military-support infrastructure

Beaufort County Council unanimously approved a resolution authorizing submission of a $1,895,000, two-year proposal to the Department of Veterans Affairs to develop a military infrastructure resilience and all-hazards decision-support capability that inventories dependencies, interdependencies and critical vulnerabilities affecting local military installations and county services.

Project leads described outreach to the three local bases and a set of letters of support already in hand. "We put together a proposal that would be submitted... for $1,895,000 over 2 years," a project lead told council, emphasizing that the package would be submitted by the county and that base letters of support were being coordinated. Staff said legacy costs would be minimal — limited staff time and small update costs in future years — and council members characterized the initiative as an important step to protect military installations and county services from disruptions.
