Brookings County approves Dakota Recycling permit for Volga processing site

Brookings County commissioners voted to approve Resolution 26‑29, a construction and operating permit that will allow Dakota Recycling to establish an automobile white‑goods, tire fragmentation and size‑reduction shredding operation in Volga.

"This is for Dakota Recycling in Volga, and they're applying for a solid waste facility permit as the resolution says to establish an automobile white goods and tire fragmentation size reduction shredding and processing facility," the commission director said during the discussion. Staff noted the city of Volga has already approved the change but that a state statute requires county approval for a solid‑waste facility even if the site lies inside a city.

Commissioners asked a few clarifying questions about the business and the packet materials, including a letter from Jerome Kellner that had been provided to the commission. The chair called the roll; VanderWaal, Post, Miller, Jensen and Hosler each voted "aye," and the motion carried.

No conditions or amendments to the resolution were recorded during the meeting. The action was entered as Resolution 26‑29 and will allow Dakota Recycling to move forward with its proposed processing operations in Volga.
