Commission reviews $8,800 quote to remove dome insulation, address mural mold

County staff told commissioners they obtained a quote of just under $8,800 to remove old insulation and plastic from the courthouse dome above the third floor and replace it with blow‑in insulation to reduce humidity and mold on interior murals.

"It's about just shy of $8,800," the commission director said when describing the estimate and the planned scope: removal of old insulation and plastic, followed by blow‑in insulation without plastic sheeting that holds moisture. Staff said the work should prevent recurring mold problems on the murals and would not likely need to be repeated after a later cupola repair.

Commissioners asked about timing and whether the work could be done within weeks; staff said the contractor could start within a month if authorized. After discussion the commission indicated consensus to proceed.

The director said the work was related to a previous roof replacement and ongoing humidity management; no separate funding appropriation was reported on the record during the meeting.
