National Night Out plans: fundraisers, helicopter, demonstrations set for Aug. 4 in Volga

Commissioner Marty briefed the commission on National Night Out scheduled for Tuesday night, Aug. 4, describing activities and local partners.

Marty said Volga deputies and the school resource officer coordinate donations from businesses each year to purchase prizes, and this year organizers will fundraise for Sarah Olsen and Joe Shonwell. "They go around to the businesses and get donations... and Vaga really steps up and donates money," Marty said. The event may include a helicopter landing (weather permitting), a fire department demonstration using the jaws of life and a petting zoo provided by the Salvation Army.

The brief community update included logistical notes (Main Street/Cassin Avenue, 5–8 p.m.) and a request for county awareness; no formal action was taken.
