Clerk warns of upcoming voting‑machine replacements and rising postage costs

Ruth, the county clerk and recorder, told commissioners that the county’s MicroVote voting machines were purchased in 2020 and that planning for replacement should begin ahead of the 2028 presidential cycle. “We have approximately 8 machines go to every voting location, so that's 5,” she said, describing the county’s deployment ratios and noting production lead times from vendors.

She also emphasized growing postage costs for jury notices and absentee ballots—double postage applies for absentee balloting because envelopes go out and return postage is provided—and asked commissioners to be mindful of election‑season workload increases and the associated costs to the clerk’s office.
