The City Council approved change order number 2 to the Skyplex Trucking LLC contract for the 2nd Street and 2 Line Street concrete pavement replacement project.
City documents read into the record put the original contract at $2,315,156 and noted that change order #1 revised the contract to $2,327,084. Change order #2 totals $73,919 to cover extra work caused by unexpected subgrade soil conditions; the state Office of Facility Planning and Control is reviewing the change order and, if approved, is expected to provide 75% of the change order ($55,439.25), leaving an estimated city share of roughly $18,000. The council moved and seconded the resolution and, after a presentation by the city engineer, adopted the measure by roll call.
City engineer Nick Verret described the additional work: "we wound up, undercutting, in some areas about 3 feet, other areas about a foot, foot and 0.5, and, to get down to some more stable material. And then we brought back in some new, select fill, and brought that, got density on all of that." He said that subgrade removal and additional manhole work at the Church Street intersection formed the bulk of the change order.
