The Avon Community School Corporation board of school trustees on Aug. 1 presented a resolution commending Amber Wetzel of Pine Tree Elementary as the district’s 2025–26 Teacher of the Year and approved the commendation 3-0.
Staff and students described Wetzel’s classroom work and outreach following redistricting, saying she prioritized belonging and invited students to lunch and family engagement. A staff presenter told trustees, "Missus Wetzel, you start every single day at Pine Tree with a smile on your face," highlighting her daily presence in the building.
The resolution read by the acting board president noted Wetzel has been employed with Avon Schools for four years and that the district’s community committee reviewed teacher portfolios before selecting the district winner. Trustee motion and second were recorded and the motion passed unanimously.
The board plans to deliver the written commendation to Wetzel and include the award in district records.
