Board names Mary Cantelberry Avon Community School Corporation support staff of the year

At its Aug. 1 meeting, the Avon Community School Corporation board approved a resolution honoring Mary Cantelberry as the 2025–26 district support staff of the year. Trustees and school colleagues described Cantelberry as "the heart of the school" and praised her care in the preschool and snack service.

Cantelberry responded on stage: "I was very shocked and surprised. I cried. I felt humbled and very blessed," reflecting her reaction to the recognition. The board read a resolution noting Cantelberry’s 17 years with Avon and approved the commendation by motion, 3-0.

Administrators said the district’s community committee reviewed nominations and portfolios during the summer selection process. The board will place the written commendation in district records and acknowledged Cantelberry’s reluctance for limelight but consistent service for students.
