Board approves Avon High School handbook changes on parking enforcement and cell phones

The board approved changes to the Avon High School 2026–27 student handbook that create a limited parking-fee enforcement system and tighten the cell-phone discipline protocol.

Dr. Finley described the parking enforcement as a small fee with progressive discipline and SROs verifying improper parking before penalties; the intent is to better track who is on campus and to reduce conflicts. On the cell-phone policy, administrators said the first-day confiscations fell from roughly 50 cell phones to 15 by Aug. 7 after teachers and administrators implemented the updated approach: "By the end, on August 7, there were only 15 cell phones," staff reported.

Trustees praised the more measured policies as reasonable and consistent with student input; the board approved the handbook amendments by unanimous vote.
