Hull Historical Commission seeks MACRIS listing for Light Plant building at 15 Edgewater Road

Steven Greenberg, chair of the Hull Historical Commission, presented the commission’s letter and said it has started submitting documentation to the Massachusetts Historical Commission to consider the light plant building at 15 Edgewater Road for MACRIS and the National Register. Greenberg described the building as a "well preserved example of rare Mediterranean [Revival] architecture" and emphasized its role in Hull’s electrification history tied to rail transportation and Paragon Park.

Greenberg said the commission’s research (about 10 pages so far) traces ownership questions and architectural significance from the 1890s through later expansions, and that local designation could place exterior preservation requirements on future work. "The Light Plant Building has important ties to the early cultural history of national electrification that occurred in Hull," Greenberg said. He and commission members offered to work with the light board as the feasibility study and any future site work proceed.
