Alma council discusses employee medical benefits and pension match changes, defers action

Councilors discussed Item 5 and Item 6 concerning employee medical benefits and pension contributions but did not approve immediate changes.

On medical benefits, the mayor (Speaker 1) said only one employee was currently on the city plan and that any change could not take effect until next year. On pensions, the council considered reducing the TRS (pension) employee contribution from 7% and changing the employer match from 2-and-1 to 1-and-1, but a plan representative (reached by phone) told the council such changes could not take effect until 2027 and that up-to-date numbers were not yet available.

Council members agreed to defer action until the plan administrator can provide specific figures and the council can review those impacts on employee rates.
