Council raises safety concerns about corn rows, ditches and speeding on gravel roads

Council members raised multiple public-safety and code-enforcement concerns during the meeting. They reported that corn growth in low-lying flats is impeding sight lines at intersections, which increases risk for motorists, and that ditches are filling in because grass is not growing; members said if the vegetation issue is not resolved the ditch will continue to fill in. The council also discussed the speed of ATVs, golf carts and vehicles on gravel roads and noted the working assumption that the speed limit on gravel roads is 55 mph unless town signs state otherwise.

The council tabled code enforcement items until the Sept. 8 meeting to allow more members and staff to review emails and to determine next steps. They agreed all board members should have access to code enforcement emails to stay abreast of the situation and to coordinate enforcement and signage decisions.
