Sawyer County economic‑support staff presented June caseload figures and warned the board about a statewide DHS mailing that could affect BadgerCare Plus childless adults.
"For FoodShare cases, we had 1,079. FoodShare recipients, 1,781 with a total benefits issued of a little over 281,000," Sean (economic support) told the board. He also said DHS is executing a large mailing starting Aug.7 to notify affected BadgerCare Plus childless‑adult cases about federal Medicaid requirements that begin in 2027, and staff expect increased call volume and questions, particularly around possible work requirements.
Staff said call center volume has been higher in summer months (7,230 calls answered in June with a longest wait time of 38 minutes) and that the agency has scripts ready for economic‑support workers. Board members discussed childcare and local efforts to expand respite and family child‑care options in response to community need.
