Select Board appoints Rachel Kane to Buffalo Mountain Forest steering committee after debate about seat counts

The board considered appointing Rachel Kane to the Buffalo Mountain Forest steering committee. David Upson explained the committee can have up to 17 seats and that there are currently two vacancies; he outlined reasons to keep an odd number of members for voting and encouraged outreach to recruit another member, but the board ultimately moved, seconded and approved Kane's appointment with at least one abstention.

Upson described the membership status and recommended leaving a seat open until an additional volunteer was found, noting "there's 2 seats available" and that appointing Kane would still leave one seat open. The board carried the motion by voice vote; a single abstention was recorded in the public discussion.
