The Board of Pardons and Paroles began its Aug. 10 session with certificate of employability reviews and granted multiple COEs after brief case summaries. Chair Jennifer Medina Zaccagnini proposed adding a restriction to one COE for safety: "In the matter of Eric Small, move to grant a certificate of employability with a restriction on driving positions." The board then voted unanimously to grant the COE with that restriction.
Board member Aileen Keyes, who summarized Mr. Small's record, said she did not find his convictions to be disqualifying for employment and noted the applicant uses an ignition interlock device: "I don't find his criminal convictions concerning in terms of, a work certificate of employability." The panel also granted COEs for Kristen Whelan, Pablo Cruz Jr. and Jennifer Haas after members reviewed their education, treatment participation and employment needs. Staff will mail COEs within two weeks and notify applicants of any denials within one week.
