Jason Gonzales reviewed multiple park projects during the March 28 workshop. He said Phase 1 of Rancho Valencia, which includes two playgrounds, a workout area and a basketball court, is hoped to have a grand opening in April; phase 2, which might include pickleball courts, is being considered next year. Gonzales also said the River Park Trail has received maintenance and coordination with the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District to clear corridor areas for a continuous trail between the old and new bridges.
Los Cerritos Park is at roughly 90% design and has $3.6 million allocated; staff said construction is expected to begin in April and will include turf areas, gazebos, volleyball and pickleball courts, lighting, playgrounds and a walking loop around the seven‑acre site. Staff noted grant timing requires some expenditures by June and that rollover from the General Fund can complete the work this summer.
