Los Lunas outlines water/wastewater upgrades and a potential $50M MBR‑2 facility to double capacity

Utility staff reported multiple water and wastewater upgrades enabled in part by the recent water rate increase. Ongoing work includes converting wells away from arsenic treatment to CO2 treatment, a water well rehab and booster station telemetry work, MBR cassette replacements, Digester No. 1 rehab, a new administration and laboratory building, manhole rehabilitation and targeted neighborhood utility pipelines and resurfacing projects.

Staff also outlined a proposed MBR‑2 facility to add a second MBR treatment train and double the plant flow from 2.7 million gallons per day (MGD) to 5.4 MGD, noting the project would "come in around 50 million" in preliminary estimates and would be a multi‑year planning and funding effort.
