Defendant April Fields pleads guilty to DWI; court imposes probated sentence with treatment conditions

April Fields entered a plea in a third-offense DWI case and the court accepted stipulated evidence and recommendations from the parties.

After the stipulations were accepted, Judge Stephanie Boyd found the defendant guilty and announced the sentence terms: a suspended three-year prison sentence probated for three years with regular reporting, urine analyses, DWI intervention and a requirement to use ignition interlock if driving. The judge also ordered field visits, 100 hours of community service and allowances for attendance at children’s activities.

Defense counsel asked the court to consider alternatives given Fields' role as primary caregiver to school-age children; the court said it would allow limited activities for child care while imposing monitoring requirements to reduce the risk of reoffending. The court reminded Fields that violation of the conditions could lead to revocation and incarceration.
