The Town of Hempstead board moved to close the public hearing and approved changes to parking restrictions in Uniondale after a resident asked which streets were affected and expressed concern about business impacts.
Stacy Richardson (Uniondale) asked for clarity about which addresses would be affected and whether petitioning the entire block would be required before changing signage. Traffic control staff and the deputy supervisor said the specific request covered Pembroke Street in front of 1261; the existing school‑day restriction (8AM–3PM) would be repealed and replaced with an 8PM–8AM overnight restriction at that property so residents would not have overnight parking directly in front of their homes. "If more residents...write into our department requesting the parking signs...we would petition the whole block," an official said.
The board voted to close the hearing and adopt the item; the clerk recorded 'Aye' votes by the supervisor and council members. Officials said similar requests for no‑parking or sight‑distance no‑stopping corners would be handled case‑by‑case and that petition thresholds (e.g., letters from multiple homes) would be used to extend restrictions to whole blocks.
Residents were advised to petition formally if they want block‑wide consideration and to contact their councilmember or the traffic department for next steps.
