Goshen expands literacy programs, eyes kindergarten outreach and sets new-teacher orientation

Dr. Dixon Carter, assistant superintendent for curriculum, reported the district will expand its literacy supports ahead of the new school year, moving Scotchtown to the 3rd edition of the Foundations program and acquiring Foundations levels 4 and 5 via BOCES and Wilson Reading for upper-elementary grades. Carter said the district will also add Funhub lesson content and a 'Fun and Focus' small-group intervention to strengthen tiered instruction.

Carter said UPK enrollment remains largely unchanged (54 at Scotchtown Avenue, 12 at On My Way Early Learning Center), and the district has identified approximately 12 children projected for kindergarten in 2027–28 whom the administration plans to contact about enrollment options despite missed application deadlines. Dr. Carter also confirmed new teacher orientation is scheduled for Aug. 25–26 and described professional-development plans including Wilson micro-credentialing and webinars to support teacher implementation of structured literacy.
