Committee outlines "Week Without Driving" events: senior bus outing, concert and stamp-rally idea

Staff reported coordination with regional partners, including Metro Transit and the MPO, for Week Without Driving activities and said a senior-center Metro Transit outing is planned for Monday, Oct. 5 to introduce riders to the bus system. "We actually just had a meeting today... and so this is gonna be an opportunity for seniors and anybody who wants to join to meet at the senior center... and take the bus," staff said.

Committee member Kirsten described a free evening concert at StoneHorse Green (targeted 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.) featuring the Cross Family Band; she asked staff to coordinate with the Council for the Blind and Visually Impaired to ensure accessible space and encouraged promoting walking and transit use. "I'd like to have Kathleen... say a few words," Kirsten said, noting outreach to the senior center.

The committee discussed a stamp-rally concept where participants collect stamps at local sites; Tad suggested a digital stamp app but noted cost considerations. Members proposed funding options including sustainability or tourism-operating funds and discussed prizes versus "the activity as the prize." The committee agreed staff and volunteers will develop logistics and outreach, and members volunteered to help with school outreach, social media and accessibility planning.
