Resident asks council what will happen to sanitation fund and 175-acre farm parcel

During the public-comment portion, Brent McDaniels introduced himself and asked several questions about the city's sanitation fund and a roughly 175-acre property next to the city farm.

"I just have a couple of questions... what's gonna happen with any of the money remaining after paying any of the debts and selling equipment since we don't have a sanitation department anymore?" McDaniels asked, giving his address for the record. He also suggested the 175-acre tract might be suitable for a fire station. Staff said the future funds are expected to go into the general fund and that the sale of surplus equipment will be presented to committees and placed on the finance agenda for review.

Council directed staff to follow up with the finance committee and to present a plan for equipment sales and allocation of remaining sanitation funds. Council and staff also discussed planning considerations for potential siting of any new fire facility and said further study and mapping would be needed before any decision.
