Flowood board authorizes $40,000 grant submission, approves advertising renewal and hires two public-works laborers

The Aug. 15 consent agenda included multiple administrative and contract items. The board authorized the Mayor and/or Police Chief to sign and submit grant documents for $40,000 held by the Rankin County School District through the Mississippi Community Oriented Policing Grant (MCOPS). The board also approved renewal of an advertising agreement with PinPoint Marketing, LLC for the Flowood Compass Magazine, authorized payment of $2,500 to the Hartfield Booster Club as a Gold sponsorship, and authorized the City Clerk or Mayor to sign agreements related to the renewal of the self-insurance fund stop-loss policy and to designate Bobby Peoples as the agent of record for that policy.

Public Works Director Garry Miller reported two vacancies and recommended hiring Makenzie Magee and Shelby Shipp as Laborer 2, Step 1. Alderman Don Flynt moved to hire Makenzie Magee; Alderman Deron Harmon seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Alderman Kathy Smith moved to hire Shelby Shipp; Alderman Deron Harmon seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Jennifer Anderson provided an update on the Flowood Chamber of Commerce; the minutes record no board action on the update.
